Athlete-Fit Swimwear

fashion fit vs athlete fit

FASHION FITS THE MIRROR. ATHLETE FITS THE MOVEMENT.

Fashion swimwear is designed to look good. JAYD is designed to perform, and turn heads doing it. Made to move with you, so you can dive in with confidence and stop adjusting mid-set.

Performance fit isn't a fashion fit

Fashion swimsuits are made to look good whilst standing still. They are soft and relaxed, designed to shift and loosen once you start moving. Athlete fit swimsuits are designed to feel secure and compressive on purpose. This ensures they stay put through every stroke, turn and entry into the water, with zero adjusting mid-set.

Most fashion swimsuits are made with soft fabric that stretches and loosens over time. Our premium athlete-fit Italian face fabric is made with a 100% PBT lining, which means it doesn’t stretch like soft fashion fabric. The secure, “second skin” hug you feel on land is what keeps the suit from moving and will soften slightly when wet, ensuring you can still breathe fully and move freely.

Fashion swimwear is sized off your clothing size and how it looks in the mirror. Athlete-fit swimwear is sized off your body: your torso, bust, waist and hips, and how the suit moves with you. Find your perfect performance fit with our size and style guide.

The 30-second movement checklist

Before you commit to a swimsuit, run three quick checks. They’re the difference between “looks good in the mirror” and “stays put for the whole set.”

Overhead reach

Raise your arms like you're reaching into a freestyle catch. The neckline should stay in place rather than dropping into a scoop you have to keep pulling up, and the back and legs shouldn't ride up or shift. If everything slides when your arms go high, the size or cut isn't right for how you move.

Squat / stand

Drop into a squat, then stand up. Your hips and bum coverage should stay put. A little stretch is normal, but if the suit rides-up it's a sign that this is the wrong cut or size for your body, and you should try another size or a more secure style.

Dive / entry feel (twist + reach)

Mimic a dive entry, or twist sharply through your torso and reach. Your straps should stay flat against your shoulders, and the chest should stay locked in without needing a shelf bra (JAYD one-pieces are designed sleek and secure without padding). If you're readjusting your straps after every entry, try another suit.

WHAT SECURE LOOKS LIKE ON A JAYD ONE PIECE

Fashion swimwear stretches out. JAYD doesn’t, and that’s what keeps it fitting season after season. So size for how it feels today, not how you hope it’ll feel later. To find your perfect fit, head to our style and size page for charts and style notes, or dive into the complete sizing guide.

FIND YOUR SIZE

Measure bust, waist, hips, and your torso loop, then match the style-size guide. Don’t guess from your clothing size.

LONG TORSO FIT

If you need a suit with more length, follow the long-torso callouts on our style-size guide or try our Zimmy Long Torso One Piece.

IN BETWEEN SIZES?

If you're between size measurements, or you prefer a more relaxed fit, we recommend sizing up.

FAQ'S

t runs compressive, not “vanity small.” JAYD is designed secure for activity, so it can feel tighter than fashion swimwear in the same labelled size. Use measurements + the style-size guide. Between sizes, size up.

Yes. A firm second-skin hug on land is normal. It should still let you breathe and move. If straps dig hard or range of motion is blocked, go up a size or try a different cut. Fabric softens slightly once wet.

Default: between sizes or long torso → size up. Don’t size down hoping it will “stretch out” like fashion suits. Chlorine-resistant Italian fabric with 100% PBT lining holds its compression.

Not reliably. Clothing size is a weak proxy for swim fit. Measure bust, waist, hips, and torso loop, then match the brand chart for that style. Remember sizing is just a number.

Overhead reach (no neckline/back drop), squat/stand (hips stay put), and dive or twist + reach (straps and chest stay secure). Pair those checks with a fixed-back / high-security style built for movement.
