Q1. What inspired you to become a surf ironwoman, and when did you first fall in love with the sport?
I fell in love with the sport from the moment I started nippers at age four, I just loved being at the beach all the time. By the time I hit the U11s and was introduced to iron racing, I was hooked. What inspires me most is how incredibly fit you become as an ironwoman, what we do isn’t exactly normal, and that’s what makes it so special. It’s such a unique sport with some of the fittest people in the world, and I’m just so grateful to be part of it.
Q2. Which leg of the ironwoman race, swim, board, or ski, feels most natural to you, and which one pushes you the hardest?
The swim definitely feels most natural to me. I was a national pool swimmer growing up, so it’s always been my strongest leg. The board, on the other hand, is definitely my weakest, I just can’t seem to move my arms the same way I do in the water.
Q3. What’s been your proudest sporting achievement so far?
Winning the Open Australian Surf Teams in 2024 has been my proudest achievement. It’s been a goal of mine since I first won it in the U14s back in 2014, so to achieve it 10 years later with the Burleigh girls was really special.
Q4. What does a typical training day look like for you during peak season?
Every day looks a little different, but typically I’ll swim in the morning, then train ski, board, or iron in the afternoon, followed by a run set.
Q5. What’s one piece of advice you’d give to young athletes who dream of becoming an ironwoman?
You have to be motivated, without it, training just feels like a chore, and that’s not what you want. Fun fact: after COVID I actually stopped training and racing at a high level because I lost that motivation. Two and a half years later, I came back more excited than ever.
Q6. What’s something people might be surprised to learn about you outside of sport?
I worked as a flight attendant for three months during COVID… and then developed a fear of flying. lol
Q7. If you weren’t competing, what would you love to be doing instead?
I’d love to be travelling around Australia with my partner and our dog - that’s a big dream of mine.
Q8. What’s your go-to way to relax or reset after a long day of training?
I love jumping in the sauna, or honestly just lying in bed watching a movie.
Q9. If you could travel anywhere in the world for a surf or swim, where would it be and why?
A swim in Lake Brienz in Switzerland or the Maldives!
Q10. What’s a motto or mantra you live by, in sport or in life?
This one is quite simple but “Trust the Process”
